The Mud Slinger
Tyler Pierce - the Mud Slinger - first worked with clay at the age of 11 when taking a youth pottery class at the 577 Foundation in Perrysburg, OH. Tyler's love for hands on art lead him to the Toledo Museum of Art classes in metal work - where he learned to build delicate copper flowers. His next adventure was blacksmithing in St Augustine, FL - crafting swords.
Tyler returned to clay at age 15 and began to hone his wheel throwing skills in Flagler Beach, FL under the teaching of Heather Wales. In 2019 Tyler continued classes in Gainesville, Fl - until Covid closed the studio in 2020.
Determined to continue slinging mud, Tyler built a home studio and used the internet as a learning tool. He is grateful to the online pottery community that shared various throwing techniques, glazing results, kiln firing schedules, etc.

In 2021 Tyler was commissioned by a NYC chef (his brother Ryan) to create pottery for a series of outdoor farm-to-table dinners. He also began working on commissioned pieces for individuals. These have included custom dinnerware sets, large decorative platters, lidded sourdough bakers, custom steins, a saki set, and many more.
Tyler & his work can be found at multiple art shows throughout the southeast US, on Etsy and in his home studio near Gainesville, FL - where he also teaches classes.
